High temperatures, plentiful water, and bright sunshine all contribute to the incredible growth in the tropics. In the tropical forest there is twice as much new growth of vegetation as compared to the temperate forest. Tropical forest trees preserve soil fertility, prevent floods, erosion, and drought, disperse water down through the vegetation layers and support a variety of plants and animals.
